Between 1942 and 1945 the United States Mint issued “Silver Nickels.” During WWII nickel was a precious war supply, so the Mint replaced it with actual silver. A silver nickel today is easily noted by the Mint Mark above the Monticello Dome on the reverse of the coin.This is an excellent way to inexpensively buy Silver.
